Village

A tourist complex built in 1968 in Baia Domizia on the initiative of a Scandinavian cooperative to make it an exclusive place: ‘the Swedes’ paradise'. In that stretch of coastline, where the Mediterranean scrub and sand dunes reigned supreme along with a pine forest with an inclusion of ilex grove, ‘La Serra Holiday Village and Beach Resort’, now ‘Italy Village’, was built.

Taken over in 2014 by the Caserta entrepreneur Luigi Mennillo, who made substantial restyling investments, taking care to preserve the environment intact by combining the presence of man with his needs and evolution with the presence of the topsoil and fauna, an environment where nature, hospitality and comfort come together to offer guests a unique and unforgettable holiday.

Our Story

In the 1960s, the Municipality of Sessa Aurunca, with the intention of enhancing and urbanising the coastal strip characterised by large expanses of pine and holm oak forests sloping down towards the dunes and from these towards the sea, favoured the construction of houses and villages under the careful supervision of the Paduan town planner Lorenzo Menegazzo.

It was the intention of the municipal administration to realise a project that respected the pre-existing natural environment and that only a few buildings would be visible from the beach, while access to the sea through the pine forest would be exclusively via pedestrian avenues.

It was in this context that the Swedish-ownedLa Serratourist complex was built in 1968, known illo tempore as ‘the Swedish village’, as it was then reserved for Scandinavian holidaymakers only. As also widely reported in a 1975 Istituto Luce newsreel: ‘A “little slice of Sweden in Italy”.
